The NHC said Tuesday it is tracking a tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea that could become a tropical depression by the end of the week.

While it's too early to know the exact path or intensity of the system, long-range models show a variety of landfall sites — including multiple points along Florida's Gulf coast. Models will become more consistent if the system develops any further.

“Next week, what will become the next named storm of the hurricane season, can impact Florida. Invest 99L is likely to become a tropical depressing in the next day or so and continue to strengthen through the end of the week,” Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Amanda Holly said.

A disturbance swirling over the central Caribbean Sea now has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression by the end of the week, and some computer forecast models show it continuing to strengthen.
