The Ohio Supreme Court has let stand ballot language that will describe this fall's Issue 1 as requiring gerrymandering, when the proposal is intended to do the opposite.

The Ohio Supreme Court has issued a ruling on language that would affect Issue 1 in the November election. Issue 1 seeks to remove politicians from the redistricting process and create an independent commission in an effort to eliminate gerrymandering and draw fairer districts.

The case against the Ohio Ballot Board’s summary of Issue 1 now includes Ohio’s House and Senate Democratic leaders, along with further arguments from the creators of the proposed constitutional amendment to reform redistricting and end gerrymandering by replacing politicians with a citizen commission.
