A fourth tropical disturbance formed in the Atlantic Ocean early Saturday morning and is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center – the latest activity amid the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Disturbance near Florida could form into a tropical depression next week, NHC says
According to the NHC, a broad area of low pressure is expected to form early next week in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. As the system slowly starts to move north or northwest after that, officials say gradual development is possible. The NHC says a tropical depression is expected to form, possibly by the end of the week.
What to expect from next week's possible tropical formation in the Gulf
A trough, or elongated area of low pressure, is expected to dig southward across the Midwest and/or Northeast late next week. If this trough is deeper and dips farther south, it will likely grab on to the tropical cyclone and pull to the northeast, possibly toward Florida. However, if the trough is shallower, a more western track appears likelier.
Tracking the Tropics: Developing storm to track into the Gulf of Mexico next week
Broad low pressure is expected to form there this weekend or early next week, and according to the National Hurricane Center, there is a medium chance that it could organize further into a tropical depression. If something does form, it will likely drift into the Gulf of Mexico.
