Flying in from Pennsylvania (altitude 50’ ) and planning to hopefully do this on our first full day. Has anyone ever felt altitude sickness being shuttled/riding down at this height or is it something I shouldn’t be worried about? I know not to hike a 14er since I am not used to the altitude but I don’t want to ruin my day by getting sick on the shuttle/bike. Thanks.

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and went on a hike the next day. Since the biking is mostly downhill, you won’t have to push yourself too much. Just take it at your own pace because the gravel can be challenging if you’re not used to riding on it. What I did notice is that I got a slight headache that first day from the altitude. I just took Motrin and drank a lot of water. The van ride goes up the mountain on a curvy bumpy road. If you get motion sickness at all, I’d recommend taking non-drowsy Dramamine and sit in the front passenger seat. If you’re worried about getting acclimated, pick the afternoon time slot on your first full day. That will hopefully give you some time to adjust. Have fun! The biking was totally worth it! Check out the zipline at Broadmoor...we did the Finns course, and it was incredible!
How young/skill level of a child could ride alone if cog up and bike down?

This is a question that is very very subjective. Every individual regardless of age is very different in what makes them nervous and also in their ability to control the bicycle. The ride is such that it does not require any advanced level of riding. It is a paved road the entire way and is 95% downhill. The two factors that are most important are: 1. Our smallest size bikes are 24" wheel kids bikes. They fit down to approximately 4'5" in height. 2. Can you or your children control a bike going downhill with handbrakes? On the Bike Pikes Peak Tour, or Ride-N-Rail tour the van will be behind the group as the support vehicle the entire way. So if at any point in time anyone is uncomfortable it is there as an option to skip a section or three. Typically this happens more often above timberline. Since you are able to see greater distances, this sometimes makes beginner riders nervous. At the end of the day...yes we have had as young as a 6 year old do this tour. He brought his own bike to ride and he was a VERY skilled little boy who actually did better than others on the trip. We have also had plenty of folks in their 80's do this tour. If you are trying to decide if it is a fit for you please feel free to stop in and try out some bikes and chat with us about it. We are here to help!
